Hi, I’m grace George
A lifelong food lover, problem-solver, and firm believer in taking back control of what we eat. Cooking isn’t just about following recipes—it’s about learning to think like a cook. To me this means understanding food, making intentional choices, and keeping traditions alive.
I started Charlie’s Counter because I believe food should be simple, sustainable, and deeply satisfying. Some of my best memories are of being in the kitchen, learning from my grandmother, and being surrounded by family and friends.
In a world that feels more isolated than ever, I want food to be what brings people back together.
Here’s what you’ll learn
-
Cook With Confidence
Most people rely on recipes, but real confidence in the kitchen comes from understanding ingredients, techniques, and flavors. I want to teach you how to cook intuitively, so you can look in your fridge and create something delicious without needing to Google a recipe.
-
Reduce Food waste
Food waste is one of the biggest problems in modern kitchens. Instead of throwing out scraps or leftovers, I’ll show you how to repurpose, reinvent, and cook nose-to-tail, making the most of every ingredient.
-
Take Back Control
Most people don’t realize how disconnected they are from their own food. Whether it’s growing your own, sourcing from ethical farmers, or simply reading ingredient labels, I’ll help you break free from the industrial food system and make informed, intentional choices.
-
Preserving Traditions
For centuries, people relied on canning, fermentation, and scratch cooking to sustain their families. These skills are disappearing, but they don’t have to. I’ll teach you how to preserve food, embrace old-school techniques, and bring back the traditions that kept communities connected.
Why Did I name the Blog after my dog?
I named this blog after my counter-surfing rescue dog, Charlie, whose love for food knows no bounds. When we adopted him, he was overweight from too many mindless meals—but with intentional choices, he’s now a thriving, energetic dog (even if he still misses the days of being overfed). His story is a reminder that what we eat matters.
The modern food system is broken, but we don’t have to be trapped by it. My goal is to help you reclaim your kitchen, your food choices, and the traditions that nourish both body and soul.
Let’s bring real food—and real connection—back to the table.
